SGFI announce of Indian School Players cricket League

ISPL is a joint initiative of SGFI and IJPL Sports Management

New Delhi(News4city Desk)- The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) announced the launch of the biggest talent-hunt initiative for promotion of cricket at the grass root level in the country, the Indian School Players League Talent Hunt (ISPL TH).

In an unprecedented step taken for development of grass root sports, the SGFI will deploy a massive talent scouting team, comprising of trained cricket coaches under whom young cricket hopefuls in the 12-18 age groups will undergo trials at talent hunt camps in 16 States. The selected youngsters will then represent their respective state in a path-breaking school cricket league which will be held at Dubai International Stadium.

On this occasion, Rajesh Mishra, Secretary-General of SGFI, and Chairman of Khelo India, Technical Committee, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, said, “The SGFI is committed to implementing the Government of India’s Khelo India programme across the nook and corners of the country. The ISPL is our first major initiative with the private sector to offer a grand platform for cricket at the grass root level, especially for youngsters in remote areas and underprivileged background. A world-class school cricket league with support from corporate and media will have a great impact and fire the imagination of Indian youth. I’m grateful to Dr Dinesh Kapoor, MD, IJPL Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., for supporting the SGFI’s initiative. Grass root sports cannot develop and flourish without active corporate support and participation.”

Dr Dinesh Kapoor, MD, IJPL Sports Management, said, “I’m extremely grateful to Rajesh Mishraji and SGFI for giving us this unique opportunity to support a nation-wide talent hunt and the ISPL.  Cricket is a ‘religion’ in India and almost every youngster in the country aspires to become a cricket star. The ISPL’s motto is, ‘Gully Sey Stadium Tak’, and our aim will be to help as many talented youngster to realise their dreams to play in an international stadium and shine.”

The ISPL will offer lucrative prize money and other gratifications to the upcoming players and other participants. The winning team and the runners-up will take home an attractive prize purse of INR 3.1million and INR 1.1 million respectively, while the Most Valuable Player award winner will get an opportunity to play in Minor County cricket. Merit and participating certificates will be issued by the SGFI and ISPL. Besides, free boarding, lodging, airfare and local transportation will be provided to all the selected players, coaches and other support staff during the conduct of the league at Dubai.
