Patiala 2nd March 2015(N4C Sports)- The matches on the final day of the 1st All India Inter University American Football Championship 2015 were played in wet conditions owing to incessant rains on the previous day and the night before. The grand final between home team, Punjabi University, Patiala (PUP) and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (GNDU) did not disappoint, despite the rainy conditions. In the first quarter, GNDU began proceedings with an early touchdown by their running back, Chawla. However, they did not gain extra points by failing to convert their field goal opportunity. PUP quickly tied the game with a 42-yard touchdown of their own by running back, Anmol, and they managed to grab a 1-point lead by converting their field goal opportunity.
The second quarter was owned by GNDU, who played strong defense and regained the lead with their quarterback, Pannu, managing to score a touchdown with a short run of less than 5 yards. However, both teams played stellar defense and the third quarter remained scoreless. In the fourth quarter, PUP struck first with their running back, Anmol, scoring a 10-yard touchdown and the team gained
an extra point by converting the subsequent field goal. However, GNDU struck back with a touchdown by their star quarterback, Pannu, who scored a 6-yard touchdown. GNDU converted the field goal as well and held onto their lead for the rest of the game to register a 19-14 victory.

The 3rd place match was a shortened affair consisting of only 4 downs given to both teams to convert a touchdown. M.D. University, Rohtak (MDU) prevailed over their opponents, Osmania University, Hyderabad (OU) by scoring a touchdown on the very first down. When it was OU’s turn, MDU played solid defense and intercepted OU’s pass on their third down. MDU won 3rd place with a 6-0 victory.

Earlier in the day, the flag football final took place in wet conditions between Division II finalists Jaipur National University and Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. Jaipur National University comfortably defeated their opponents 32-6 to lift the flag football trophy.
